Come, Bite The Apple

It started completely innocent

With all the best of intentions...

We were both working really hard

On our mutual abstentions...

We went together as friends

To her first Mardi Gras ball...

The furthest thing from my mind

Was that I was going to quickly fall...

Our friendship was a gift

From our Higher Power up above...

It wasn’t suppose to happen

That I would somehow fall in love...

My sweet blue-eyed Jane

I completely missed the riddle...

You deserve all the credit

For playing me like an old fiddle...

Your juicy luscious lips kept saying

“Come bite the apple for a while.”

After all your many empty coos

I fell victim to your measured guile...

You didn’t mean to be cruel

But I guess it’s all the same...

You played me like a bloomin’ fool

That’s how we players play the game...

I now know you didn’t feel a connection

It was all just a one way thing...

I fell in love with you, my Jane

Not realizing I was just a fling...

My sweet blue-eyed Jane

Played me like a shiny toy...

I allowed my heart to get broken

Just like a young giddy school boy...

Why couldn’t I just see it

I tried to teach you how to fight...

But I offer you no blame

For my broken heart tonight...

For once under your spell

I lost my plan of flight...

And in the midst of all my pain

I finally saw the light...

While deep in solemn prayer

The answer fell into my lap...

For you, my sweet blue-eyed Jane

Became my thinking trap...

So my sweet blue-eyed Jane

Just give me the heave-ho shove...

You’ve been playing with me long enough

I’m just not the one you’ll ever love...
