Praying On The Mississippi



As the Mississippi River

 Flows along so gracefully...

I feel the power of My Lord

 Quickly take hold over me...


Her current is so powerful, 

 Her rapid water is so warm...

I feel God’s love is ever so present,

 Blessed thoughts begin to swarm...


The Mississippi has the power

 To push boats quickly past the land...

As I walk peacefully along her banks

 And place my worries in God’s Hand...


As her fast moving currents steer

 The barges down the open river...

I feel God’s everlasting presence

 An emotion so strong in its deliver...


This magnificent body of water

 So vigorous with all its treasure...

It’s truly a miraculous blessing

To have God as my almighty measure...


Since the beginning her brown waters

 Have flowed rapidly towards the South...

And it’s through this mighty river

 That God’s love will flow past her famous mouth...


God’s Nature is so beautiful 

 Offering peacefulness from above...

As the captains blow their whistles 

 I’m filled with God’s unconditional love...


As I walk along her banks

 And gaze at Manresa from the levee...

I feel truly blessed to know my Lord

 Is there when my life gets too heavy...

  Ruth Grace Moulon, known as Ruthie the Duck Lady, was an American woman who was a notable figure in the French Quarter of New Orleans. She was often seen riding from bar to bar on roller skates wearing eccentric furs, drinking Budweiser and smoking Kool cigarettes while accompanied by a couple of ducks.
